Not gonna lie… it takes a lot to convince me to book a wedding these days.
Now don’t get me wrong, I actually do love capturing the love of two people on camera. It’s a very special experience. I’ve (maybe) been known to shed a tear or two during reception speeches. Plus there’s the rush of pushing the limits and challenging myself to constantly deliver epic imagery throughout an entire day. But here’s the catch… you usually have to book them in a year (or more) in advance. I mean, I don’t even know what I’ll be doing tomorrow morning let alone in a year’s time!

I do get it, choosing a wedding photographer is a pretty crucial part of the story and could very much affect the dynamic of the entire day. You gotta lock that shit down fast! But on my end, usually the most exciting projects are the ones that pop up with weeks, or even days notice. There’s been times I’ve been asked to come on board international Passenger tours within a week’s notice! And if I’ve just so happened to book in a wedding months and months ago, well, then I start having to turn down awesome opportunities and deal with some serious #FOMO. So yeah, me and weddings aren’t usually compatible….
Enter Stacey Clark, stylist extraordinaire. She was looking after Peter and Stephanie’s wedding, and once they requested me, this lady does not take no for an answer! Again, not gonna lie, it still took a few weeks of umming and ahhing before I finally agreed to do it upon assurances that they were an awesome, down to earth, super cool couple that would let me have my creative freedom and run wild with it. So I said yes. And yep, I did in the end have to turn down multiple other great travel opportunities to make this happen. But I don’t regret it one bit. Steph and Peter were awesome. Enough said… just take a look at the photos and you’ll see!
I dare say this is my favourite set of wedding photos to date, and I think it came down to how awesome Stephanie and Peter were throughout the entire day (up for anything!), as well as a slightly new approach to wedding photography I’m working on. I’m starting to like shooting on manual lenses a lot more. Maybe the shots aren’t entirely in focus every time, but sometimes that even adds to the mood I’m trying to capture. It’s weird. I used to be all about making sure everything was perfectly exposed, perfectly focussed, followed all the right composition rules. But now I’m confident enough to go against the rulebook every now and then. Always learning, that’s the fun part!
Congratulations Peter and Stephanie! A very special day that I was lucky to share with you guys
